How can we support mental health within competitive high-pressure environments?

This question sits at the core of my research and practice. As head of the Wellbeing in Sport and Performance Lab, my work spans performance-oriented contexts like sports, with application across athletes, coaches, officials, dancers, musicians, academics, and more.

My research has focused on self-compassion and self-criticism, gender, body image, and the systemic and organisational conditions that shape mental health in high-performance settings. My goal is to contribute knowledge that helps these environments better balance performance and health — work that spans nearly 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and industry reports to date.
